How to do things on the forum

Registration

To register for the Mountainz forum:

Click on "register" and answer all the question as you'd expect. You'll be asked for an email address but the activation email you need to receive to start posting doesn't get sent to you (owing to some quirk in the system that we haven't figured out and to be honest never will).

So, after registering your username, email me at mailtothechief@gmail.com and we shall activate your username. Remember to tell me the username because I can't look it up from your real name or email address.

Posting

I have had a few enquiries about how to do stuff on the forum, and as I had to scratch my head working out the answers, I thought I'd list them as I worked them out.

To quote someone in the thread. Hit the Quote button before and after you copy and paste the quote, which should result in: [quote]Blah, blah, blah[/quote]. To quote the name also, use [quote="username_of_the_person_who posted"] at the start.

To display an image, use the [img] button or tags in the same way as for [quote]. You need to have the image stored on a server (i.e., the Internet) somewhere. It seems important to use "http://" in the link. For example, you write [img]http://www.mountainz.co.nz/forum_pictures/image-name.jpg[/img] if you were using our server. It is important not to post an image that is too large as it will stuff up the display of the forum. 500 pixels or less across is fine. If you want to post a picture and are are stuck, email it to me and I will post it.

If you have found something interesting on the Internet and want to link to it, use the [url] tags as for the [img] tags above. Again include the "http://" part in the URL.

If you are typing everything correctly but not having success, it may be because you have disabled the BBCode in your attempt to post. Under the text box into which you are typing, ensure that "Disable BBCode in this post" is unchecked.

You can email me at mailtothechief@gmail.com

Cheers, Glenn
